Report of the Training Workshop on Smallholder Beekeeping held at Butikiro, 18-19 June 2009.
The two day workshop was attended by 46 farmers from Butikiro and Kiyuni villages. Its aim was to improve the farmers' knowledge, skills and know-how in beekeeping and to catalyse their engagement in beekeeping as an environmentally-friendly and economically-viable agribusiness venture. Mr. Patrick Rutagyengwa and Mr. John Paul Ndawula, beekeeping experts from the East African Beekeepers Equipment Limited facilitated the workshop. The following topics were covered during the workshop: a) Introduction to Beekeeping; b) Benefits and importance of beekeeping; c) Types of bees in a colony and their roles; d) Colonization of hives; e) Apiary site selection; f) Apiary management, g) monitoring, management and inspection of hives; and h) Harvesting and processing of honey.
Report of the Training Workshop on Market-Oriented Fruit and Vegetable Growing for Sustainable Livelihoods held at Butikiro.
The training workshop was organized by Sustainable Livelihoods International Uganda
(SLINT-Uganda) with financial support from an on-line volunteer on Nabuur. The two-day workshop
was held at Kyamulalama Primary School from 31st
of May to 1st
of June 2009 and was attended by
56 participants, including 46 project beneficiaries and 10 other participants from the neighbouring
villages of Kiryajobyo, Bulyanzige, Kiyuni central and Kyerere.
District officials at the workshop included Mr. Emmanuel Orom, Local Council III Chairperson for Gayaza Sub County, Mr. Frank Musoke the Community Development Officer for Gayaza, the LC II Chairperson for Kiyuni parish, and LCI Chairpersons for Butikiro and Kiyuni villages.
